temple

is the universal designation for the organized religious faction of each alignment

so there is the lawful good temple, the true good temple, the chaotic good temple, the lawful neutral temple, the true neutral temple, the chaotic neutral temple, the lawful evil temple, the true evil temple, and the chaotic evil temple

orders

are officially part of the temple of their alignment but are also dedicated to specific aspects of that faction most noticeably domains

so there are lawful good temples where you will find lawful good clerics of all types and there are lawful good orders of life where the clerics are all specifically lawful good life domain clerics

sects

are religious factions that are not part of the universal temple structure nor are they associated with it

it is possible to gain ranks in both a sect and a temple

the orzhov temple is such a sect and most consider druid circles to be sects as well

sects a covered as factions

renown

if you change alignment you do not lose your renown but depending on the offense you mat lose your rank

exceptional service for the temple or order will earn you renown as normal

temple faction ranks

rank 0: congregation member

prerequisites: renown 0 and the correct alignment and that's it

this is the only faction you don't have to actually join but instead are automatically considered to be a part of the temple of your alignment

this entitles you to attend services, pay tithes and offerings, and receive aid and assistance as is defined by your alignment

if you are an acolyte you can earn a living at a modest lifestyle when you chose to work

rank1: deacon (or elder)

prerequisites: 5 renown, rank 0 and promotion

one in thirteen members is promoted to deacon, deacons help mainly on temple day

deacon is generally the highest rank a non-acolyte can attain and are called elders

if you are an acolyte you can earn a living at a comfortable lifestyle when you chose to work

rank 2: priest

prerequisites: 9 renown, rank 1, acolyte background and promotion

one in thirteen deacons are promoted to priest

if you are an acolyte you can earn a living at a wealthy lifestyle when you chose to work

rank3: bishop

prerequisites: 13 renown, rank 2 and promotion

one in thirteen priests are promoted to bishop

if you are an acolyte you can earn a living at a noble lifestyle when you chose to work

rank 4: archbishop

prerequisites: 17 renown, rank 3 and promotion

one in thirteen bishops are promoted to archbishop, this is generally the highest rank a savage culture can support

if you are an acolyte you can earn a living at a royal lifestyle when you chose to work

rank 5: cardinal

prerequisites: 21 renown, rank 4 and promotion

one in thirteen archbishops is promoted to cardinal

savages promote one in thirteen archbishops in the same culture to cardinal but rare have thirteen archbishops in one culture close enough to do so

you can earn a living at a semi-divine lifestyle when you chose to work

rank 6: pope

prerequisites: 25 renown, rank 5 and selection by the cardinals

there is only one pope for each temple in each great city

savages promote one in thirteen cardinals in the same culture to pope but rarely have thirteen cardinals in one culture close enough to do so
